BUEC was founded in 1962. In March 1997, with the efforts of Prof. Dr. Cem Ersoy, Prof. Dr. Lale Akarun and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Arda Yurdakul who are still teaching as computer engineering professors in Boğaziçi University, BUEC expanded by taking the name Boğaziçi University IEEE student branch. These three professors made the club known in the university through introductory meetings. The very first student club president was Arda Yurdakul and the very first advisor was Cem Ersoy. Other members of the club were either computer engineering or electronics engineering students. Assistant president of the club was Reha Çaputçu, clerk was Halim Levent Bağcıoğlu and accountant was Muharrem Aydın. After the foundation of the club, 20 members joined the official membership of IEEE to gain recognition worldwide.
The club started its activities from the very beginning of its foundation. Among these was 1. Turkey IEEE Student Branch Congress. The founder of this congress, which still continues annually, was Barış Sümengen. In 1997, this congress was organized by our university. The event was enriched with technical seminars, Bosphorus tour and historical places trip with people from all around Turkey.
Then, our club helped form the IEEE Student Branch of Yıldız Technical University. Our club continued its activities and shaped technology with 1998 Student'98 Congress, and later on with Technoforum and then Robot Days.
The club's current misson is introduction and popularization of electronics to large masses. It therefore organized activities such as BETA Industry Days, CONNEXT, Biomedical Days, factory trips, robot educations. In one of the most well-known schools of Turkey, we have our signature under most educating activities of technology. BUEC will continue like this and organize more and more technical and social activities.
